Texas Man Killed in Oklahoma Oil Rig Accident

Johnston County authorities say a Texas man was killed in an oil rig accident in southern Oklahoma.

The county sheriff's office said Thursday that 42-year-old Ernesto Rodriguez of Gainesville, Texas, died in the accident on an XTO Energy Inc. oil rig in Mannsville. Sheriff John Smith told KXII that a pipe was somehow forced out of a well hole and struck Rodriguez shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

XTO Senior Production Superintendent Guy Haykus said the company is working to determine the cause of the accident and that the rig is shut down while XTO and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration complete their investigations.
