Texas Man Gets 50 Years for Slaying After Alleged Car Radio Burglary

A South Texas man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison over a slaying that prosecutors say was sparked by the alleged theft of a car radio in his neighborhood.

Jurors in Brownsville on Tuesday sentenced 19-year-old Robert John Anthony Martinez of San Benito.

The same jury on Monday convicted Martinez of murder in last November's death of 19-year-old Angel Perez. Prosecutors say the victim was stabbed more than a dozen times.

Investigators say Martinez chased and attacked Perez because he suspected the victim and some friends burglarized a vehicle and swiped a radio.
