Texas Girl, 10, Killed in Fall From Pump Jack

Authorities say a 11-year-old girl has died in the Texas Panhandle after falling from an oil field pump jack over the weekend.

Hutchinson County sheriff's Capt. Jerry Langwell told the Amarillo Globe-News that the accident happened about 6 p.m. Saturday near a residence northeast of Borger.

Langwell said people who were with the girl when she fell tried to revive her, but she died on the way to a hospital.

Authorities are withholding the identities of the girl and the adults with her at the time pending further investigation.

An autopsy was ordered by Hutchinson County Judge Shila Hart.

Langwell said oil field equipment has many moving parts and people need to keep a distance because of the dangers.
