Elementary Students Invited to Submit Artwork to Keep Texas Clean

Keep Texas Beautiful and Don't Mess With Texas are encouraging elementary school students from Texas to get creative to keep Texas roadways clean and litter-free with an art contest.

The "Don't mess with Texas Elementary School Art Contest" is looking for art submissions from students enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade that promote Don't Mess With Texas and / or Keep Texas Beautiful. All artwork must be submitted by April 18.

The purpose of the contest is to encourage children to actively think about protecting the Texas roadways and environment.

Students who create the top 13 winning designs will have their artwork featured in the 2016 Don't mess with Texas Calendar. Each winner will win an iDeaUSA 8 tablet donated by H-E-B and Central Market. One student 's artwork, chosen from the 13 winning designs, will be featured on the calendar cover. Teachers representing students who produce the top 13 designs will win a $100 H-E-B and Central Market gift card.

"Our children can remind us all about the importance of keeping our state free from unsightly litter," said Cathie Gail, executive director of Keep Texas Beautiful. "Litter habits start early. This contest is a way of teaching our youngest Texans that litter belongs in a trash can while also encouraging them to use their imaginations and their artistic talent."

All student winners will be showcased on the Don't mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful websites and at the 2015 Keep Texas Beautiful annual conference.
