Texas Cop Who Shot 93-Year-Old Woman Back as Volunteer

The police officer who shot and killed a 93-year-old woman last year is back in law enforcement in a neighboring county.

The Eagle reports that former Hearne police officer Stephen C. Stern is volunteering 20 hours a month for Falls County precinct constable Richard Aleman.

Stern was fired in May, four days after he shot 93-year-old Pearlie Golden after responding to a 911 call. His attorney said Stern was acting in self-defense after Golden refused to drop her gun, and a grand jury declined to indict him.

Aleman told the Eagle that Stern helped with traffic control at a Christmas parade and assisted at other community events.

He said he was aware of Stern's past, saying officer shootings were part of the job.
