Construction on Buc-ee's in Terrell hit a milestone when six roads surrounding the large travel store opened Thursday.
Hundreds of acres are in development for the store set to be completed by the beginning of summer. Expanding Farm-to-Market Road 148 and adding a frontage road to Interstate 20 will make the area much more accessible.
Officials said the area will soon also be home to a hospital and several retail stores. Terrell Mayor Hal Richards said private investors funded $10 million toward the area, but the cost will go beyond that.
"It could be, I'm sure, well north of $150-200 million," he said."There's all kinds of things that you can do on 250 acres."
City leaders said they will celebrate the road completion by setting off a cannon.
