Teens Helping Texans Impacted by Harvey

Countless Texans are stepping up like never before.

Donation collection area popping up across the state. Denton and Collin County teenagers have been collecting food, clothes and toiletries.

The call for help has not been lost on the Keller High School swim and dive team.

“I’m just happy I can do my part to help,” said senior Holt Ragsdale. “I was not expecting all of this. This is fantastic.”

Ragsdale and other students started collecting items at the Keller Independent School District Natatorium on Monday.

The collection drive will be open until Wednesday. Items in need include socks of all sizes, underwear of all sizes, baby food, baby products, diapers for senior citizens, and non-perishable food.

The teens say the collected items will be given to a company that will transport the items to the Houston area in the coming days.

“It’s just about changing lives and doing better,” said senior Shon Brown.

Allen High School’s volleyball team has also jumped in to help.

“It’s a great turnout so far,” said senior Emily Walsh looking at the donations that continued to pile up inside the gymnasium.

“We’re excited about playing in our new gym and it’s like we’re so fortunate, we should be able to give back to them,” said Walsh.

For the North Texas teens, their efforts are about more than school pride.

“Really show that we really care about our fellow Texans,” said Ragsdale.

Brown has a message for Harvey survivors: “We’re praying for you. We’re keeping you in our thoughts and we’ll get through it because we’re Texans.”
