TX State Budget Leaders Receive Financial Update

The Legislature reconvenes in January

The Texas comptroller's office is giving budget leaders a rundown of the state's financial picture just months before what will likely be another lean legislative session.

Associate Deputy Comptroller Mike Reissig was scheduled Friday to testify before the Legislative Budget Board. He's expected to give House Speaker Joe Straus and others on the 10-member board an economic update and revenue estimates for the current fiscal year.

Earlier this year, Legislative Budget Board director Jim O'Brien told lawmakers the state had raised $1.6 billion more in revenues because of an improving economy.

The Legislature reconvenes in January. Each session begins with the comptroller's office giving lawmakers an estimate of how much money they have to spend for the next two years.
