TWU Student Struck by Car and Killed

A 23 year-old woman was killed in Denton after police said she was hit by a car.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Bell Avenue at Withers Street Thursday night around 7:30 p.m., just south of the Texas Woman’s University campus.

Denton Police spokesman Officer Ryan Grelle said it appears the woman was crossing Bell Avenue when the car hit her. She was then transported to Denton Regional Medical Center where she died a short time later.

On Friday, TWU confirmed that the victim was a student and identified her as Brenna Charless Taylor, an interdisciplinary studies senior.

In a statement to students and faculty, Vice President of Student Life Dr. Monica Mendez-Grant said:

It is with great sadness that I inform you that TWU student Brenna Charless Taylor, an interdisciplinary studies senior, died Thursday evening after she was struck by a vehicle near campus. Our sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time. TWU Counseling Services are available and information on these services can be found at www.twu.edu/counseling.

A representative at The Way Impact Christian Center in Denton confirmed that Taylor was a member of the church and they had been in contact with the young woman’s family on Friday to set up services and memorials. The representative also said right now everyone involved is still just shocked at what happened.

Grelle said no arrests have been made, nor have charges been filed or any citations been issued. He also confirmed that it is not listed as a hit and run.
