Fourteen open-enrollment charter schools in Texas — among them one in Dallas and another in Greenville — could get their charters revoked, after state officials say they fell short in academics or financial accountability three years in a row.
Faith Family Academy of Oak Cliff in Dallas and Phoenix Charter School in Greenville are among the 14 schools that could face shutdowns.
Because the schools failed to meet those performance ratings for the last three school years, they now meet the legislative standard for mandatory revocation of their charters, the Texas Education Agency said Tuesday.
Conservators are being appointed for each school, which have until Jan. 12 to request informal reviews and possible hearings.
The other schools identified by state officials were:
- Academy of Careers and Technologies Charter School in San Antonio
- Bay Area Charter School in El Lago and League City
- Bright Ideas Charter School in Wichita Falls
- City Center Health Careers in San Antonio
- Girls & Boys Preparatory Academy in Houston
- Henry Ford Academy Alameda School For Art + Design in San Antonio
- Higgs, Carter, King Gifted & Talented Charter Academy in San Antonio
- Ignite Public Schools and Community Service Centers in Brownsville, Edinburg, Mission, Raymondville, Rio Grande City, Weslaco
- Medical Center Charter School in Houston
- Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School in Humble
- San Antonio Technology Academy in San Antonio
- Transformative Charter Academy in Killeen
