Syrian Refugees Feeling Backlash

Many refugees feel uneasy right now, with dozens of states, including Texas, saying they want to close their doors to Syrians.

Hala Halabi came to the United States 15 years ago from Syria. She came to live with her husband and said every morning she rushes to check her phone to see news about war-torn Syria. Her parents and siblings are still there.

"I am always scared. I am not comfortable. I always have bad dreams," said Halabi.

While thinking of family back home, Halabi also spends time helping Syrian refugees getting settled in North Texas.

"They are not feeling comfortable going out right now, because they are feeling they are not welcome any more," said Halabi.

Halabi said the people coming here are families who are looking for a better life.

"They are not dangerous. They are good people trying to find a safe place to live," she said.
