Suspicious Device Taken to Rowlett Police Station

The north and southbound lanes of Rowlett Road were closed after a suspicious device was delivered to the Rowlett Police Department Saturday afternoon.

Initial reports indicated a postal employee delivered a device that was believed to be a pipe bomb to the police station. Lee Castiglione, communications supervisor for the Rowlett Police Department said they do not think the package was addressed to the police, but rather brought there because the device looked suspicious to the letter carrier.

It ws later learned that the object was a homemade device designed to steal mail.  It was found inside a mailbox at the post office and driven to the police station for analysis.

The device was secured in the postal carriers personal vehicle while waiting for the bomb squad to arrive at the scene and determine what the object was.
