Suspect Killed, 2 Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting After Chase

A suspect has died in an officer-involved shooting following a chase Friday afternoon in Van Zandt County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Texas Rangers and an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were conducting an investigation north of Mabank just before 1:30 p.m. when they attempted to stop a pickup truck with three occupants inside, officials said.

The driver of the pickup attempted to flee, but the truck stopped near County Road 2718 and County Road 2719 due to a mechanical failure.

The people inside the truck then began firing at the law enforcement officers, who returned fire, hitting two of the suspects.

One man died at the scene, and the other was transported by air ambulance to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler with serious injuries.

The third suspect was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Kaufman for treatment of unspecified non-life threatening injuries.

Further information has not yet been released.
