Suspect Arrested In Rape, Burning Of Elderly Woman

Police have arrested a door-to-door magazine salesman accused of raping an elderly Grand Prairie woman and then setting her on fire.

A warrant for aggravated sexual assault was issued for Daniel Deshawn Neal, 23, of Chicago, based on information from another sales person, Detective John Brimmer said. Neal was arrested Tuesday night in Fort Worth.

The 78-year-old victim was assaulted Monday at home, doused with rubbing alcohol and set on fire. Brimmer said the woman was hospitalized Wednesday with second-degree burns. Her name has not been disclosed.

Brimmer gave no details on the company that employed Neal.

Conviction for aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony, carries a prison term of 5 to 99 years and, or a $10,000 fine.

Police said they want to remind people that anyone selling from door to door must have a permit identifying who they are and who they represent. If there is any doubt, never let that person into your home and call the police.
