Supreme Court Rejects Terrell Bolton

Former embattled Dallas police chief rejected by the chief justices.

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an attempt by former Dallas Police Chief Terrell Bolton to resuscitate his wrongful termination claim against the city.

The high court on Monday turned down Bolton's request to clarify when a city or county can be held legally responsible for the actions of local policymakers.

In 2007, a federal judge dismissed Bolton's lawsuit against Dallas, saying the city can't be held liable for the actions of the city manager.
Bolton said Ted Benavides didn't follow procedure in the 2003 firing.

Bolton's four-year tenure was marked by a fake drug scandal, lawsuits by demoted commanders and controversy over hiring practices.

In February, Bolton was fired as police chief in DeKalb County, Ga. He has appealed.
