Subpoena Out for Judge Who Cited DA for Contempt

Lawyers for a Dallas district attorney say the judge who cited him for contempt disparaged him in a private conversation after the citation was issued.

The Dallas Morning News reports that a subpoena was issued Friday for State District Judge Lena Levario to appear at a hearing Monday to determine whether a contempt citation she issued against Craig Watkins should be upheld.

Scottie Allen, who's representing Watkins in the contempt proceedings, said the alleged comments made in May by Levario to the county's jail population coordinator show the judge is biased against the DA.

Allen declined to disclose the comments.

Levario earlier this year held Watkins in contempt after he refused to answer allegations about the prosecution of an oil fortune heir for mortgage fraud.
