Stonebriar Mall Evacuated Sunday

Mall in Frisco remains without power after dual transformer fires

Visitors to the Stonebriar Centre Mall in Frisco were evacuated Sunday after two transformers caught on fire.

Several NBC 5 viewers reported they were visiting Stonebriar Mall in Frisco when they were asked the leave the mall.

Frisco city spokeswoman Dana Baird tells NBC 5, first there was a call of a dumpster fire at the mall, then there was an electrical issue involving a transformer that caused the mall to be evacuated.

Firefighters found an outside transformer in flames just after 2 p.m. Soon after, another transformer caught on fire inside the mall as a result of the first transformer's failure, firefighters said.

Electricity was turned off to the transformers just after 3 p.m., Baird said.

The mall remained without electricity for several hours Sunday, but most of the mall was scheduled to reopen Monday for normal business hours.

Several stores remained closed for business as repairs continued. All Department stores, restaurants, and the movie theater are set to open as usual.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, and officials continue to investigate the cause of the fires.
