Stars Surge Past Jets 6-4

Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn each scored two goals and Sergei Gonchar had four assists and the Dallas Stars beat the Winnipeg Jets 6-4 on Saturday afternoon.

The victory halted a two-game losing skid for the Stars, who only have four wins in their past 10 games.

Dallas rookie Valeri Nichushkin also scored a goal and center Colton Sceviour scored his first NHL goal.

Kari Lehtonen, playing his 200th game for the Stars and 404th career NHL game, stopped 34 of the 38 shots he faced.

Blake Wheeler had a pair of goals, Matt Halischuk also scored and Olli Jokinen added a goal and assist for Winnipeg, which is winless in its past six home games.

Going into the game, Winnipeg, Dallas and Nashville were tied with 33 points at the bottom of the Central Division. However, Winnipeg has played three more games than Dallas and one more than the Predators, who host San Jose on Saturday night.

Winnipeg is 3-11-3 against division opponents. Dallas's mark is 3-6-3.

Seguin opened the scoring when he took a long pass from Gonchar at the blue line, skated in alone and fired a high shot over Pavelec's blocker at 7:14 of the first for his 16th goal of the season.

Three minutes later, Halischuk scored after banging in a rebound from a Mark Scheifele spin-around shot in the high slot to make it 1-1.

Nichushkin put Dallas ahead 2-1 with an unassisted goal that was almost a replay of Seguin's goal. The first-round pick crossed the blue line, went around a defender and then in alone on Pavelec to score at 14:24.

Wheeler and Benn each scored a pair of goals in the second period.  Wheeler's first came when he skated out of the box after serving a delay of game penalty, went into the slot and beat Lehtonen while the Stars' Antoine Roussel was in the box for hooking.

Dallas regained a 3-2 lead 48 seconds later after Benn put in a rebound off a Gonchar shot at 13:46.

Wheeler tied the game again a little over a minute later when he skated across the front of the net with the puck, drawing Lehtonen out of his crease, before firing in a sharp-angled shot to make it 3-3 at 14:53.

But Dallas scored two power-play goals in a span of one minute and three seconds when Benn scored his ninth of the season and Seguin put through a one-timer for his 17th. The goals were scored when Jets winger Anthony Peluso was off for a boarding major and a game misconduct.

Sceviour made it 6-3 at 2:48 of the third when he went on a breakaway, drew Montoya out of the net and then scored with a backhand shot.

Jokinen finished the scoring at 18:19 when he got a stick on a rebound in traffic in front of the net.
