A Wise County man was arrested on Mother's Day after telling sheriff's deputies that he killed his mother, police say.
The Wise County Sheriff's Department received a call for a welfare check at a home on the 710 block of County Road 4270 just after 6 p.m. Sunday.
When deputies arrived at the home, they met 49-year-old Kirk Heithecker, who told them he'd killed his mom. Police then found the body of 75-year-old Nancy Heithecker.
A motive in the murder has not been revealed.
An autopsy revealed Heithecker died of strangulation.
The woman's son was taken into custody and charged with her murder. Heithecker's bond is set at $1 million.
