Shoplifting Leads to Shots Fired

Garland police arrested two suspected shoplifters Wednesday and one is still on the run after shots were fired outside a Richardson CVS Pharmacy.

Police said what started out as an undercover burglary sting operation quickly turned into a chaotic shootout.  Undercover Garland police officers said they noticed a stolen car at about 1 p.m. suspiciously idling outside a CVS at Buckingham and Plano Roads on the Richardson-Garland line.

Before they could surround the car the shoplifters came storming out carrying hundreds of dollars in stolen merchandise.

"They start to leave in the stolen vehicle, jump a curb and head right for our undercover vehicle," said Joe Harn, a Garland Police Department spokesman. "Our officers did fire a couple shots."

The bullets took out the driver's side window as well as a CVS window.  No one was injured.

A third suspected shoplifter escaped after carjacking a 2001 green Toyota Corolla.  Police chased the vehicle into Dallas near Central and Meadow before losing it.
