Sex Abuse Gets Ex-West Texas Detective 20 Years in Prison

A former West Texas police detective has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after his conviction of sex crimes against children.

A Howard County jury sentenced former Big Spring police detective Joel Rojo (ROH'-hoh) on Friday after convicting him on multiple counts of indecency with a child and other sex crimes. Rojo also must register as a sex offender.

According to court documents, Rojo try to persuade children to expose themselves for photographs in 2015. Prosecutors say Rojo took each of three children, who ranged in age from 12 to 14, to a remote parking lot where he tried to persuade them to expose themselves.

Big Spring is about 330 miles east of El Paso and about 280 miles west of Dallas.
