Semi Wrecks, Spills Fuel Onto I-20: Dallas Police

Interstate 20 was blocked in Dallas Friday morning after a semitrailer wrecked and spilled fuel onto the road, authorities said.

Police said the semitrailer was heading west on I-20 when the driver lost control and wrecked near St. Augustine Drive at about 4:45 a.m. The truck hit a guardrail, which pierced the gas tank.

The driver of the truck, Charles Martin, told NBC 5 he was hauling crates to Waco when he saw orange construction barrels ahead, tried to brake and lost control. He said the road was very slick.

Martin said it was his first wreck in 16 years as a driver. He suffered a minor cut and nosebleed in the wreck.

Crews shut down two lanes while they cleaned the wreckage and spill. At 7:30 a.m., they said they hoped to open all lanes by 8 a.m.

NBC 5's Jeff Smith contributed to this report.
