Semi Driver Slams Through Concrete Wall, Sending Truck into Freeway Below

TEXpress lanes remain open Monday morning; eastbound 820 unaffected by crash; all lanes of westbound 820 open

The crash took place at about 10 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Northeast Loop 820 and Iron Horse Boulevard where a TEXpress toll road exit comes to an end above the toll lanes.

The driver apparently didn't stop at the end of the exit and smashed through a concrete wall. The cab fell to the ground below while the trailer was left suspended off the edge of the bridge where much of its load of mayonnaise spilled to the ground.

Emergency crews shut down parts of North East Loop 820 on Sunday night after the driver of a semi truck slammed through a concrete wall and the truck crash onto the freeway below.

Officers shut down the freeway Sunday night so a medical helicopter could land. The driver was then taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The exit ramp to Iron Horse Boulevard is expected to remain closed until repairs to the wall can be made.

TEXpress lanes remained open Monday morning and eastbound Northeast 820 was unaffected by the crash. All lanes of westbound 820 reopened just before noon Monday.
