Search for Jessica Smith Goes Nationwide

The Amber Alert for 11-year-old Jessica Smith has been extended to all states bordering Texas, Fort Worth police said Thursday.

Jessica disappeared overnight Monday. She is believed to be with her mother, who has custody of the girl, but police said they believe she is in grave danger.

Two arrest warrants have been issued for Kimberly Smith, Jessica's mother, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. The warrants are for aggravated assault and child endangerment.

Fort Worth police said Friday that they are aware of and investigating the validity of a Facebook post on an account believed to belong to Jessica.

Police said Smith, 42, took Jessica from their home late Monday night or Tuesday morning after a family fight.

Investigators said Smith apparently has a deteriorating mental illness and has threatened to commit suicide and injure her children. Police also said Smith has exhibited a pattern of irrational behavior.

On Wednesday, the Amber Alert was extended to New Mexico and Oklahoma. On Thursday, the Amber Alert was also extended to include Arkansas and Louisiana while being canceled in New Mexico. The alert in Texas was reissued Thursday evening.

By taking the search nationwide -- even though it's not a national Amber Alert -- investigators could put information about the mother and daughter on roadside billboards.

Jessica is 5 feet 1 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds. She has brown eyes and straight, brown hair just past her shoulders in length.

Smith has a cross tattoo on her neck and a decorative tattoo on her back. She is 42 years old and stands 5 feet 2 inches tall. She weighs approximately 150 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Officers are searching for a 2007 silver Mazda CX-9 sedan with Texas license plate BMZ-390. The car has tinted windows and a pink and green Harley-Davidson sticker on the rear window.
