Teacher Beaten, Locked in Trunk During Robbery

Police: Attack in grocery store parking lot was particularly vicious

A Dallas teacher is recovering after she was badly beaten in the parking lot of the Tom Thumb on East Lovers Lane near Central Expressway in Dallas.

The 45-year-old woman, who asked not to be identified, was followed out of the supermarket at about 5:30 p.m. Monday night.

"I put one bag of groceries in, and then this big man punched me right in the face," she said.

The woman said she was locked in the back of her Honda sport utility vehicle before she knew it.

"He hit me several more times, grabbed my wallet and then slammed the door shut," the victim said.

The man only made off with $11 in cash.

"The main thing -- my back is sore, I have a black eye and my mouth is cut up, because I was screaming really loud, and he was trying to cover up my mouth," the victim said.

Dallas police said the attack was particularly vicious. The robber went well above what it took to get the woman's wallet, police said.

But investigators said they are optimistic store surveillance pictures will lead to an arrest in the case.

"Someone out there knows who this guy is," Dallas police Lt. Andrew Harvey said.

Another woman was beaten leaving a Tom Thumb in far North Dallas in November.

Tom Thumb said it has improved its security and surveillance cameras since that attack. But the victim in Monday's attack said she will no longer be shopping at the grocery store on Lovers Lane.
