San Antonio police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman at her home by an officer who had been called to do a welfare check.
Authorities say when officers showed up at the home Saturday afternoon, the front door was unlocked and they found a woman behind a closed bedroom door. Police say she told them she wasn't armed but when officers went in, she was holding a semi-automatic pistol.
They tried to disarm her and when police say she aimed the gun at one of the officers, another officer shot her once. The woman died later at a hospital.
The officer, with the department for six years, has been placed on administrative duty.
