Salvation Army's Red Kettle Drive Takes Sudden Nose Dive

Although The Salvation Army's annual red kettle drive in the DFW Metroplex had been running ahead by as much as $132,000 over last year, the campaign took a nose dive last week and is now behind by $45,000.

The upcoming weekend is the last weekend of the campaign.  Weekends are important times for the charity as more people are out shopping and may donate when they see The Salvation Army's bell ringers out at red kettle stands.

Salvation Army officials are concerned about the overall result of the campaign, which officially ends the evening of December 24.

The week before Christmas is typically the highest week for red kettle income, but there are no guarantees that the lost ground can be made up in the final days of the drive.

Red kettle donations provide annual operating income for The Salvation Army's 13 community centers across the Metroplex.

The community centers provide a range of services for families, including after-school care, child care, food pantries, youth sports programs, summer-long day camps, and activities for senior citizens.
