SXSW Crash Victim Could Return to Trimble Tech Soon

Tish Davis' mother told NBC 5 that she's still hopeful her daughter could be released from an Austin hospital soon.

Regina Davis said her daughter is in good condition, but would not get released from the hospital on Monday night as she hoped.

Meanwhile, Davis' classmates at Fort Worth's Trimble Tech High School -- nearly 200 miles away -- returned to class with heavy hearts Monday morning.

Classmates said Tish Davis was a ball of energy and they're already feeling the loss without her in class right now.

"I miss her, I hope she gets back soon. My prayers are going out to her," said friend Tiana Robinson.

Tish Davis has a broken leg and stitches in her face and head.

"I know it’s going to be on my mind, it’s going to be on a lot of people’s minds. It’s just going to be a sad day here," Robinson added.

Classmates say Davis was everybody’s friend, and underclassmen -- like sophomore Kateba Johnson -- looked up to her.

"She’s amazing," Johnson said. "She’s a cheerleader. She’s somebody that you look up to. She’s somebody you want to be around. She has a warm heart."

Tish Davis’ boyfriend, Dre Tatum, graduated from Trimble Tech last year. Tatum is still in a medically-induced coma in an Austin hospital.

Many students are close friends with him too.

"It’s a disappointment spring break had to end like this," Johnson said.
