A man wanted for fatally shooting his estranged wife on a Dallas street Friday morning killed himself as Dallas officers surrounded his Oak Cliff home, police say.
Police said they received a shooting call at 7:15 a.m. near Illinois Avenue and South Cockrell Hill Road.
Witnesses at that location told detectives the woman got out of the car and ran. The man jumped out and chased the woman, leaving the car in gear, before shooting her in the middle of the street, according to Lt. David Pughes with the Dallas Police Department.
With the car having rolled away, the man, later identified by police as Jalmar Garcia, then carjacked a passerby and drove to his home on the 5200 block of Tato Drive, police said.
When officers approached the home, they heard a single gunshot. Dallas SWAT entered the home and found the man with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The woman, Martha Elena Garcia, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the woman was shot in front of two DART buses carrying more than a dozen people. Officers are interviewing the people who saw the shooting, including the two bus drivers.
