SMU Police Search For Suspect After Sexual Assault on Campus

Southern Methodist University police are investigating a report of a sexual assault on campus.

The attack happened Saturday night at the Hughes-Trigg Student Center Theater and SMU officials said neither the victim or her attacker were students.

SMU spokesman Kent Best said the attacker is an acquaintance of the victim, who was visiting for homecoming weekend. The suspect's name, though known to police, has not been released to the public and an arrest has not yet been made.

Campus police sent out a crime alert email to all students Sunday morning, describing the woman's attacker as a 27-year-old white man who is about 6 feet tall, weighs about 235 pounds and has tanned skin and short brown hair.

This is the second sexual assault within the first month of school. In late August, a woman said she was assaulted inside the Commons Dormitory.

In both cases, the female students knew their attackers and reported it immediately to police.
