Runners from across North Texas gathered Monday at White Rock Creek Trail to remember a jogger killed last week while doing what he loved.
One week ago, David Stevens was randomly killed during a morning jog on the trail. His accused killer, former Texas A&M football player Thomas Johnson, admitted to the murder, police said.
"I just pray that his family finds some peace and comfort and a way to forgive Mr. Johnson," said vigil organizer Lynnlei Tuschoff. "To have his life violently taken from him is an indication of the darkness in this world."
More than 200 people participated in a candlelight vigil and silent run in honor of Stevens Monday night.
"You live on forever as long as people remember you," said runner Larry Fine. "I'll remember him and keep him in my thoughts."
Stevens' family was not at the vigil. Through an event organizer, they expressed their gratitude.
