U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper is resigning his post in the Northern District of Texas to return to private practice.
Roper said in a news release that his resignation is effective Wednesday. He has served as U.S. Attorney since June 2004. Read the full news release here.
"I wish to thank President Bush and Senators Hutchison and Cornyn for providing me the greatest professional experience and honor of my life. I am proud to have led the talented and dedicated professionals in this office in representing the United States and reducing crime in North Texas," said United States Attorney Roper.
James T. Jacks, first assistant district attorney, will be appointed acting U.S. attorney and will serve until the new administration nominates a successor.
Roper said he would become a partner in a Dallas law firm.
