Missing Dog Found

Gollum had been missing since Monday

Gollum, the Italian Greyhoud, missing since his owner Andrea Benua died in an icy pond is back home with his family according to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas.

"We're delighted that Gollum is home with the people who love him and know that he is a source of comfort for his family during this difficult time," said SPCA of Texas President James Bias.

The Benuas can thank "Mike the builder" for Gollum's safe return according to the Star-Telegram.

Builders spotted Gollum near Benua's home, caught him, opened a window on the Benua's house and dropped him inside, Kathy Carlile, Andrea Benua's sister-in-law told the paper.

Carlile said they had a phone message that simply said, "This is Mike the builder, and the dog is at your house."

Benua, 34, died Monday night after plunging into an icy pond as she tried to rescue her other two dogs.

The small Italian Greyhound named Gollum was spotted near the pond and barked and led animal control officers to where his owner drowned and then disappeared as rescuers pulled Beanua from the water.

The SPCA of Texas offered a $5,000 reward for the dog's safe return after an anonymous donor came forward with the money.
