Residents Trapped by Dallas Apartment Fire

A fire at a Dallas apartment building trapped some residents in their homes early Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews arriving to the scene at 7300 Chaucer Place in Dallas reported heavy smoke and fire coming from a first floor apartment.

Resident Velma Adams told NBC 5 she could not exit her apartment through the front door as fire was right outside.

"I went out the patio door, put a box up to the fence, and jumped over it," Adams said. "That's how I got out."

Residents of second story apartments were able to be removed.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
