Recession Hits Food Bank

Need for food is way up at the Tarrant Area Food Bank

The recession is hitting a local food bank hard.

The Tarrant Area Food Bank is struggling to meet a 25 percent increase in demand.

The Tarrant Area Food Bank is the primary source of food for 300 hunger relief charities in the 13 counties surrounding Fort Worth.  The charities include low-income day care centers, after-school programs, soup kitchens and senior centers.

In the past eight months, the Tarrant Area Food Bank has distributed 25 percent more food than it did during the same period a year ago.

The community can help meet the need by donating food, funds and volunteer time, the food bank said.
