Raid Nets 5 Illegal Gambling Operations

14 arrested in largest bust of its kind since 2003 in N. Texas

Sheriff's deputies raided and shut down five illegal gambling operations Friday morning.

The bust is the largest of its kind since the sheriff's department stepped up enforcement in 2003.

A total of 14 people have been arrested, many on unrelated felony charges.

The five businesses were operating out of portable metal buildings -- all right next to each other along Jacksboro Highway.

Investigators estimate that there are another 15 to 20 of these businesses operating illegally in Tarrant County.

They said the businesses are breeding grounds for other crimes, making the bust about more than just gambling.

About 40 deputies were taking part in the raid.
