Austin's Public Safety Commission says state law may not provide enough guidance on protecting victims' privacy as police prepare to launch a body-worn camera program.
Commission Chair Kim Rossmo says the law doesn't include any specific rules regarding sexual assault, domestic violence or child abuse victims.
Commissioners also say the law doesn't provide enough guidance for the maximum time footage is saved if it's considered evidence of a crime.
Police Cmdr. Ely Reyes told the commission he believes legislators did a good job addressing privacy.
The Austin American-Statesman reports the law allows footage recorded in a private space only to be made public with the consent of those in the video and requires anyone seeking footage to submit the date, time, location and name of at least one person who appears in the recording.
