Hundreds of demonstrators roamed the streets of Downtown Dallas on Tuesday after a rally in response to the decision by a grand jury in Missouri not to indict a police officer involved in a deadly shooting there.
At about 9:45p.m., dozens of protesters congregated in the middle of busy Interstate 35E on the western edge of Downtown Dallas, where they blocked traffic while surrounded by police patrol cars.
Video from Chopper 5 showed the demonstration appeared to be peaceful, and police eventually coaxed most of the demonstrators to the shoulder by about 10:15 p.m.
Dallas police said after reasonable requests were made to clear the highway, seven people were arrested and charged with obstructing the highway, a Class B misdemeanor.
The remaining group then made its way to the sidewalk outside Dallas Police Headquarters on Lamar Street.
There have been no reports of violence or injuries to demonstrators or police officers.
Dallas County sheriff's officials responded to one non-injury vehicle crash in the backup along I-35E.
The march followed similar protests in cities across the country after the grand jury in eastern Missouri decided not to indict Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed black teen Michael Brown.
