President Donald Trump Awards Medal of Valor Posthumously to DART Officer Brent Thompson

President Donald Trump Posthumously awarded fallen DART Officer Brent Thompson the Public Safety Medal of Valor Award on Wednesday.

Thompson – along with four Dallas Police Department officers – were killed in the July 7, 2016, ambush shootings.

He was the first DART officer killed in the line of duty in the department's history and died just two weeks before his 44th birthday.

Thompson's wife, parents and DART Police Sargent Richard Tear attended the ceremony in Washington, D.C. to accept Thompson's award.

"Every officer, firefighter and first responder who receives this award embodies the highest ideals of service and sacrifice, character and courage," Trump said during a White House ceremony.

The medal is the nation's highest honor for bravery by a public safety officer.
