A Central Texas police department is mourning the shooting death of a pregnant employee.
The Austin American-Statesman reported that police are investigating the death of 29-year-old Samantha Dean as a homicide. A Bastrop County sheriff's deputy found her body lying on the ground Wednesday next to an abandoned car behind a closed business.
No arrests have been made yet in her death. It's unclear how far along she was in her pregnancy.
Dean lived in Austin and was the only employee in the Kyle Police Department's victim services unit, which helped guide victims of crime through the justice system. She worked there for about two years.
A police officer told the newspaper Dean was happy about her pregnancy and that officers would often suggest names for her baby.
