Possible Tornado Damages Home in Van Zandt County

A possible tornado touched down in rural Van Zandt County Thursday not far from where a deadly twister hit in Canton less than two weeks ago.

It happened about 4 p.m. in the town of Wills Point, about seven miles North of Canton.

As severe storms moved across East Texas, one person caught what appears to be a tornado just north of Canton near Edgewood.

Melissa Horn was home alone when her back porch was ripped apart and the front bricks were peeled off the front of her house.

“My biggest fear, I’ve lived through it and I’m OK,” she said. “I just hated having to be here by myself and going through that.”

She said she jumped in her bathtub when she heard a loud roar.

“I was literally jumping up and down in my bathtub,” she said. “I was scared. I was screaming. And it was over. I think I made more noise than the tornado did.”

Very minor damage also was reported to one or two other nearby homes.

No injuries were reported.

Several tornadoes tore through VanZandt County April 29, killing four people and injuring a number of others.

One woman even caught the storm on video with her cell phone.
