Teen Charged in Friend's Accidental Shooting

Teen shot with stolen handgun, Arlington police say

A teenager has been charged with criminally negligent homicide after he accidentally shot dead his longtime friend early Thursday morning with a stolen handgun, Arlington police said.

Police said a 16-year-old was playing with a handgun when it went off, killing his friend, 17-year-old Evan Roselle.

The shooting happened at the home where the 16-year-old lived with his grandparents, on the 1200 block of Golden View Court.

Investigators said Thursday that Roselle and the teen, whose name is not being released due to his age, had been friends for several years and spent a lot of time together.

Police said Thursday afternoon the 16-year-old was interviewed after the shooting and taken to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center, where he was charged with criminally negligent homicide.

The gun was reported stolen in November, and detectives are working to confirm how it got into the house, investigators said. Police have released no further information about the weapon or its owner.

Roselle briefly attended Mansfield's Summit High School in the spring of 2014, according to Mansfield ISD. Arlington police initially said Roselle had graduated from an MISD alternative campus, but MISD officials told NBC 5 Thursday afternoon that was not the case.
