Police Seek Man Who Faked Terminal Cancer for Cash

A Central Texas man who lied about having terminal cancer is sought after wrongly receiving thousands of dollars in cash and other benefits.

Killeen police say 31-year-old Brian Jeffrey Bonniwell, also known as Brian Fisher, will face a felony charge of theft by misrepresenting himself for material gain.

Investigators say the Austin man indicated to friends that he was dying from cancer, so a benefit car show was held for him March 19. Bonniwell received more than $1,500 in cash, plus thousands of dollars worth of parts and labor on his personal vehicle.

A crime stoppers tip led to the investigation. Killeen police on Thursday announced a warrant had been issued for Bonniwell.
