Police Make Arrests in Break-Ins Targeting Asian Homeowners

Plano police say they've made an arrest in a series of break-ins targeting Asian homeowners.

Police arrested Pier Alexander Pelaez, 44, and Edwin Riascos Romero, 32, and charged them with Aggravated Robbery. Police say they are responsible for three robberies, and eight burglaries in the Plano area. Both men are from Colombia, and are being held on $100,000.00 bond.

One of the homeowners who was robbed tells NBC 5 he is relieved, but hopes there are more surveillance cameras put up in the area.

Two of the robberies were very close together, according to the arrest warrant. A woman was robbed in her home on Sutherland Lane on March 17. Police say when she came home, there was a man with a gun, who forced her into a closet, before taking cash and jewelry.

The arrest warrant says a suspect kicked in the glass of a back door at a home on Mesa Oak March 17, before showing a gun and demanding the homeowner give him cash and gold.

Four days later, on Marigold Court, police say someone broke in a window with a gun. He allegedly held the woman on the floor, pulling the rings off of her fingers.

The person who lives across the street had surveillance cameras, and the video showed a car in front of the house at the time of the robbery. Through that car, and text messages, police were led to the suspects.

These arrests were part of a joint effort between Plano, Richardson and Frisco Police Departments, as well as the U.S. Marshals Service and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
