A man shot Thursday by police after allegedly ignoring commands to drop a weapon at Josephine City Hall now faces several charges, investigators say.

Police in the eastern Collin County town were called to city hall just after 4 p.m. on word that an individual involved in a disturbance there earlier in the week was returning to city hall, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The police chief and an officer were at the police department located at city hall when the man arrived, armed with a rifle.

Authorities identified him Friday as 62-year-old Bobby Darryl Chamberlain, of Josephine.

A source tells NBC 5 that Chamberlain pulled up in front of city hall and got out of his pick-up truck with a rifle in his hands.

The officers gave verbal commands to drop the weapon, and when the man did not, the officers fired, striking him an unknown number of times.

Neighbors say they heard between eight and 10 gunshots.

"[It was] very scary, because our kids were fixing to get off the bus within 30, 40 minutes, and we knew that if he was still at large anything could happen. With that kind of powerful gun I seen laying out there, it was going to do some serious damage," said neighbor and parent Angel Gomez.

An air ambulance transported Chamberlain to a hospital in serious condition for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

He is now jailed in Collin County, facing charges of aggravated assault of a public servant, terroristic threat, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Further details on the disturbance at city hall earlier in the week were not released.

The Texas Rangers and the Collin County Sheriff's Office are investigating the shooting.

Josephine is a town of about 1,300 people located 30 miles northeast of Dallas.
