Police said a North Texas father attacked a home care nurse and a firefighter who tried to help the man's dying 1-year-old son during a medical emergency.
Dallas police arrested Sergio Arellano. He is charged with assault and aggravated assault of a public servant.
Authorities said the boy, who has an undisclosed medical condition, was having breathing difficulties Saturday morning in his Dallas home along the 5400 block of Preakness Lane.
His 24-hour home care nurse, Lisa Decatur, was rendering medical aid when the boy's father, Arellano, assaulted her.
Police said Dallas firefighter Michael Barrett was responding to the home when he was knocked unconscious. Police officers called to the house later handcuffed Arellano and removed him from his son's room.
The boy was taken to Methodist Central Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The medical examiner will give the final cause of death.
