Suspected Burglar Crashes Trying to Escape Police

Suspected burglar crashes after speeding away from officers

At least two people were injured in a crash Tuesday morning after officers tailed people believed to be involved in a burglary.

Dallas police said an undercover, unmarked officer spotted three people committing a burglary at the Del Norte Apartments in Dallas.  The undercover units asked for a marked patrol car to stop the trio, but when the driver saw the marked units, he sped away.

Dallas police said officers did not give chase, instead simply headed in the direction of the fleeing driver.

Officers caught up with the trio after the driver crashed into another car and a fire hydrant on the 14900-block of Preston Road, south of Belt Line Road.  The three tried to continue their escape on foot, but were apprehended by police.

At the crash scene officers found at least two people injured, one from the speeding car and one from the second car.  Both people were treated at the scene.

Officers also recovered stolen property from the speeding car. Three people were taken into custody.  It is not yet clear what charges they will face.

It was initially reported up to four injured and one hospitalized -- those initial reports have been updated above.
