Police Blotter: Bulletproof Vest Stolen

Here's a list of recent activities drawing the attention of Texas law enforcement. List compiled on Aug. 9, 2011.

Bulletproof Vest Stolen
The United States Marshal’s office is on alert after the theft of a bulletproof vest and two loaded gun magazines from an unmarked police SUV. It happened at a Walmart Super Center parking lot in Mesquite. The Mesquite officer, who is also a member of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Strike Team, discovered the break-in around midnight. A bible, police business cards and several books were stolen, too.
 
Beauty Queen Accused of Stealing
A former West Texas beauty queen has been accused of shoplifting a $69 shirt from a mall store. Miss El Paso USA 2008 Lorena Tavera on Monday denied the theft allegation and says she plans to contact an attorney. Read more here.

Man Caught Stealing From Dallas Fire Academy
Police arrested a man at the Dallas Fire Academy on Sunday night after six bags belonging to the Community Emergency Response Team were stolen from the building. He was caught inside the academy Sunday night. Officials told the Dallas Morning News the six recovered bags were the only items stolen, but CERT directors will take inventory Monday. Each bag is valued at $40.
