Police Blotter: Man Found Dead in East Dallas

Here's a list of recent activities drawing the attention of North Texas law enforcement. List compiled on July 7, 2011.

Fort Worth Officer Shot
One person is in custody after a Fort Worth police officer was shot in the stomach Thursday afternoon. The shooting took place in the parking lot of Robinson's BBQ on East Berry just before 2 p.m. Thursday.  The officer was getting out of his patrol car when a young man, described to be a teenager, shot the officer in the stomach. An armed teen, said to match the description of the shooter, was taken into custody a few blocks from the scene of the shooting.  Read more here.

Man Found Dead in East Dallas
Police are investigating the death of a man found between two buildings at the La Prada Place apartments on La Prada Drive Thursday morning in East Dallas. Witnesses said they heard gunshots, saw the victim fall to the ground and then watched a dark-colored SUV speed away.
 
Teacher Free After Arrest
A Fort Worth special education teacher was released from jail Thursday morning after he was arrested on an assault charge. The teacher at Handley Middle School, Corey Shepard, allegedly pushed a woman with a baseball bat, authorities said. Then woman told police Shepard shoved her to the ground, hurting her ankle. The victim of the assault said on Wednesday that it was all just a misunderstanding and she hopes her accusation doesn’t affect his employment. The Star-Telegram reported the Fort Worth school district is investigating the incident.

Body Pulled From Joe Pool Lake Identified
The body of a man who disappeared over the Fourth of July weekend was identified by Grand Prairie police as 37-year-old Carlos Rios. Rios' body was found in Joe Pool Lake late Tuesday night. The Dallas Morning News reported Rios wasn’t wearing a life jacket while swimming near the north shore of the lake Sunday night.

Police Officer Faces Felony Charges
A Dallas police officer is facing two felony charges of endangering a child. Officer Victor Esparza was arrested following a domestic incident, which took place on the July 4. Esparza has served in the department since 2009. He was placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
 
Man Shot in Oak Cliff
Dallas police responded to reports of a shooting at the Bella Vista Apartments on 7431 Chaucer Place in Oak Cliff Thursday morning. Officers found a man in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported him in critical condition. Police said residents heard several shots and then saw the man down on the ground. Police said they don’t yet have any suspects in the case.
