Police Arrest South Texas Man Accused of Hitting 3 Cyclists

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged after South Texas police say he struck three cyclists with his van over the weekend.

The Monitor reports a municipal judge on Monday set Elliot Lozoya's bond at $175,000. He is charged with intoxication assault and three counts of accident involving injury.

Lozoya, who is from Sam Benito, is accused of being drunk when he hit the three cyclists at an intersection and fled the scene Sunday in Pharr.

A Pharr police spokeswoman says two of the cyclists suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The third cyclist was taken to a local hospital, where she's in critical condition.

It wasn't immediately clear if Lozoya had an attorney yet.
